| Our Approach to High Performance Building Design | |
|
High performance buildings provide short and long-term benefits to owners, occupants and the environment. Building owners can reduce their operating costs, attract and retain tenants and employees, increase occupant comfort and productivity and have a lower impact on the environment. To achieve high performance buildings, the entire design team collaborates from the project inception through construction. Early stage programming and design “boundaries” are eliminated between architects, engineers and other design specialists to support whole building design. ![]() M.E. GROUP / design is illustrated in the energy pyramid. Working with owners and design teams, M.E. GROUP / design provides the simulations and analysis needed to evaluate “investments” in building orientation and envelope to gain the most short and long-term benefits (energy savings, downsizing of mechanical equipment, etc.) M.E. GROUP / design works with design teams to develop and model integrated daylighting strategies that provide an additional 15 to 40 percent energy savings. Finally, after the energy demand of the building is minimized, M.E. GROUP / design optimizes mechanical systems to reduce energy consumption, along with supplementing supply with “renewables” (photovoltaics, geo-exchange, wind, etc.) – relatively new to high performance design but with rapidly advancing technologies. |
